Enhance Validation and Error Notifications for Configuration and Routing Issues

We would like to see stronger validation and clearer error notifications in API Connect for configuration issues that currently only surface as runtime failures. In particular, when there are problematic configurations such as:

Property or variable names that contain a dot (.) or other patterns known to cause unexpected behavior.

Routing or subscription mappings that are likely to cause ambiguous resolution or incorrect routing of requests (leading to unexpected 4xx/5xx responses).

These issues should be detected earlier and reported as explicit validation errors or strong warnings during design and deployment.

We request enhancements that:

Validate configuration and property definitions more rigorously, flagging patterns that can cause routing or behavior issues at runtime.

Surface clear, actionable validation messages in the UI and deployment logs, indicating the exact API/Product, version, and configuration element that is problematic.

Help teams identify and correct configuration and routing problems before deployment, reducing unexpected runtime failures and the need for trial-and-error debugging.
