Our organization is currently using IBM API Connect version 10.0.8.9 and requires automation to manage Engagement rules across multiple catalogs and environments, including UAT, Production Data Centre (PROD-DC), and Production Disaster Recovery (PROD-DR).
We understand that certain Engagement CLI capabilities may be available in later API Connect releases. However, upgrading solely to obtain these automation capabilities may not be immediately feasible in our enterprise environment.
We request IBM to provide backward-compatible support for Engagement rule automation in API Connect 10.0.8.9, either through a supported enhancement, compatible tooling, or a documented API interface.
The required capabilities are:
Complete rule lifecycle automation: Programmatically create, list, retrieve, update, enable, disable, and delete Engagement rules without manually configuring each rule through the API Manager UI.
Bulk rule management: Import, export, and manage multiple Engagement rules using structured YAML or JSON definitions across multiple catalogs and provider organizations.
Dynamic notification content: Support runtime variables in notification subjects and message bodies, including API name, application name, catalog, HTTP status code, error details, and event timestamps.
Dynamic recipient resolution: Allow notification recipients to be resolved from application-owner metadata so that alerts can automatically reach the appropriate application owners and support teams.
Webhook and email integration: Provide documented and supported configuration for webhook and email notifications, including multiple recipients and notification actions per rule.
Cross-environment deployment: Support controlled promotion of Engagement rules from UAT to PROD-DC and PROD-DR, with environment-specific settings, validation, and rollback capabilities.
Safe, repeatable automation: Prevent duplicate rules during repeated execution, identify existing configurations, and update rules when required.
Validation and audit logging: Provide dry-run validation, meaningful error messages, execution status, and an auditable record of rule changes.
We request IBM to confirm whether these capabilities can be supported on API Connect 10.0.8.9 without requiring an immediate platform upgrade. If backward compatibility is not technically feasible, please provide an officially supported alternative or the minimum required upgrade path.
This enhancement would significantly reduce manual effort, improve consistency across environments, minimize configuration errors, and enable scalable Engagement alerting for enterprise API operations.
