This is an IBM Automation portal for Integration products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:
Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,
Post an idea.
Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.
Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

Currently log file rotation is done by adding a simple index, e.g. mylog.txt will be "rotated" to mylog.txt.1 and so forth. In case of more than 9 rotations we will have a file with name mylog.txt.10 which, due to the filsystem's alphabetical ordering, gets listed right after mylog.txt.1 but before mylog.txt.2.
This might lead to the situation that one selects the wrong file as they are not ordered by time. Furthermore, it's harder to find the oldest genearation of the log file.
To solve this issue I propose to introduce a padding functionality in the way that the rotated log files would be named like mylog.txt.001, mylog.txt.002, ..., mylog.txt.010 and so forth. It would be nice to have a configurable padding in order that the default (0 i.e. no padding) would use the current pattern, but it would also allow to specify a number greater than zero.
