Create a plugin / default option for gateway extension to recover lost configurations in DataPower

Customer is using DataPower integrated with APIC with v5 compatibility gateway. Upon restarting DataPower, the following files are restored to their default configurations.

  • It significantly impacts the production environment when VMs / DataPower nodes are rebooted.

  • The same behavior is expected when there is an MPGW calling external APIs, as the headers in MPGW are lost after DataPower or VM reboots. How can we address these scenarios to ensure stability and reliability in such expected behaviors of the DataPower Gateway?

  • We are currently resolving the lost changes manually by updating after VM/DataPower reboots or by performing a backup restoration, which takes an additional 30 to 45 minutes.

The IBM Support team advised us to build a Gateway extension for this purpose. We request IBM product team to create plugin/ default option instead of writing long length of gateway extension codes.

At this time no future enhancement requests are being considered for the v5 compatibility gateway. Although there is no current plan to discontinue support for the v5 compatibility gateway, the strategic recommended direction is to plan on moving the native API Gateway service.
