Adding PGP Encryption/Decryption support to DataPower (as API Connect gateway)

As a governmental entity, the Egyptian Banks Company (EBC) is the technological arm of the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE), responsible for the modernization of e-payments infrastructure across Egypt. More details can be found on their official website.

EBC, mandates the requirement of native PGP encryption and signature validation support, to be implemented specifically in IBM DataPower (serving as the security component of API Connect). This is essential, since many clients operate DataPower standalone and will require compliance.

This requirement directly affects several of IBM’s major banking customers in Egypt, including:

Failure to address this requirement may expose clients to regulatory penalties and could potentially drive them to consider competitor solutions. On the other hand, enabling this feature will not only resolve a critical compliance issue but also strengthen DataPower’s positioning in the Egyptian and regional financial markets & hence will increase IBM Revenue.

For your reference and in support of this request, we have attached the following:

  • EBC Bulletin #9

  • Official specifications document issued by the Egyptian Banks Company (EBC),
