EEM to provide MCP tools, resources, for Agentic interaction and discovery of streams of events

It would be valuable for EEM to expose a set of MCP tools so agents (like IBM Bob) can discover the Catalog of events exposed by EEM for use by application developers, help topic owners document their Kafka estate in the first instance, as well as provide managed MCP access to select Kafka APIs for general purpose use.

An example set of tools could include (but not limited to):

  • For Application developers

    • Listing available topics in the EEM catalog, complete with metadata

    • Allowing 'sign up' to use a topic

    • Returning the Kafka properties file/configuration

    • Retrieving events from a given published topic: for example, the latest X

    • Controlled consumption and production use cases

    • to use Kafka APIs against topics they have access to via the Event Gateway:

      • list topics

      • metadata

  • For topic owners:

    • To create, edit and delete:

      • Clusters

      • Event Sources

        • Including schemas

      • Virtual topics

        • Including lifecycle management

    • to retrieve events from a topic they own (from the Kafka topic)

    • to use Kafka APIs against clusters they have access to:

      • list topics

      • metadata
