IBM Software Install Dates

While working with IBM License Metric Tool (ILMT), we encountered one of the possible modifications critical to Software Asset Management and that is the inclusion of IBM Software Install Dates.

ILMT does not provide installation dates at the moment, however it relies on IS tags for Software Discovery. Even what the ILMT currently reports is the moment of first time discovery of software marked as "First Seen" and "Last Seen" under Hardware Inventory.

Not considered due to effort and complexity.

IBM software install dates are one of the key information required for –

    • Back dated S&S calculation by IBM

    • See if ILMT agent was installed within 90 days

    • Many a times it helps in bundling validation

    • Mitigations in compliance closures

Also, if we look it from a detailed perspective, then we do have Operating System (OS) priority to incorporate the above mentioned functionality in tool and that is:

AIX -> Linux (Any Distribution) -> Windows -> Solaris
