Microsoft Managed Identity with Predefined Database Connector

Why is Managed Identity useful?

  1. Improved Security
    • No hard-coded credentials in connectors or environment variables.
    • Reduces risk of credential leaks.
  2. Compliance
    • Meets enterprise security standards and zero-secret policies.
  3. Simplified Credential Management
    • No need to rotate passwords manually; Azure AD handles token lifecycle.

Who benefits?

  • Enterprise teams using Azure SQL or other Azure-hosted databases.
  • Organizations with strict security mandates (e.g., ISO, SOC2, GDPR).
  • Developers aiming for password-less authentication in cloud integrations.

How should it work?
- While configuring an account on the predefined database connector, the UI should give an option to add client ID and choose the Managed Identity authentication method.

Managed Identity is an Azure security feature that provides automatic credential management for cloud services, eliminating the need to store passwords or keys in code.

It significantly enhances security by preventing credential leaks, simplifies compliance with zero-secret policies, and reduces administrative overhead by handling token rotation automatically. So we need this feature.
