Allow users within custom team to have access to API and not API Gateway UI

Hi Team,

We have a requirement where all LDAP users of a group should be able to access only API but not API gateway UI.

Workaround - Use ‘Everybody’ as default group in LDAP configuration and then use ‘Default’ teams as identifier in API application.

Cons -

  • To restrict the access to a particular LDAP group, Group root DN in LDAP configuration need to be extended accordingly.
  • For similar future requirements, multiple LDAP configurations need to be added to restrict the API access to a particular LDAP group.

This will impact server performance and overall processing time at API Gateway.

  • Multiple LDAP groups used for similar future requests, by default will be part of ‘Everybody’ group within ‘Default’ teams so all users within these LDAP groups will be able to access all APIs which are allowed to be accessed by teams - ‘Default’.

To overcome above issues, IBM API Gateway should have feature to allow users within custom team to have access to API and not API Gateway UI. As of now, this feature is only available for 'Default' teams. By allowing custom teams, there will be no requirement to define multiple LDAP configurations and API access will be restricted to specific LDAP group only.

Regards,

Prashant Gupta

    Hello Kartikey Anant

Could you please check, 'Restricting Login and Access accessibility to User Accounts', section of the product documentation to establish if this existing feature helps addressing your use case? Thank you for your request.
