Organizations using the webMethods Adapter for Salesforce rely on OAuth authentication that requires the following parameters:

  • Login Endpoint URL
  • Username
  • Password
  • Client ID
  • Client Secret

This model works successfully today with Salesforce integrations implemented on Integration Server 10.15 using webMethods Adapter for Salesforce 8.2.

Salesforce has announced the retirement of the Username-Password OAuth flow and is encouraging customers to move to modern OAuth authentication approaches, including the OAuth 2.0 Client Credentials Flow.

The Salesforce Client Credentials Flow uses:

  • Token Endpoint URL
  • Client ID (Consumer Key)
  • Client Secret (Consumer Secret)
  • grant_type=client_credentials

No username or password is used.

The current Salesforce Adapter connection configuration does not provide a mechanism to configure:

  • OAuth Grant Type
  • Client Credentials authentication flow
  • Token acquisition using client_credentials

As a result, connection attempts fail with:
