Change authentication type of (REST) connector after initial creation

After the initial creation of a REST connector it must be possible to change the authentication type. Right now that is not possible and we are forced to rebuild the connector, including all endpoints, impacting current code and requiring a full retest. Security is important and authentication requirements may change, as such a new authentication type may be needed and it should be possible to change that in the REST connector without having to rebuild it.
