Request for Azure AD Authentication Validation and Solution

Summary

We need to install the following Software AG components:

• Integration Server (IS)
• My webMethods Server (MWS)
• Universal Messaging (UM)

Environment

• webMethods version: 10.15
• Deployment: Azure Linux VM
• Database: Azure SQL Managed Instance (SQL MI)

Constraint

Due to our organization’s security policy:

• ❌ SQL Server Authentication (username/password) cannot be used
• ✅ Only Azure Active Directory (Azure AD / Microsoft Entra ID) authentication is allowed

Requirement

We need to use Azure AD–based authentication for database connectivity during:

• Installation phase (Installer / DCC)
• Database configuration for IS, MWS, and UM

Specifically, we expect to use one of the following:

• ActiveDirectoryPassword (AAD user)
• ActiveDirectoryServicePrincipal (Service Principal / App Registration)

Request to Software AG

We request Software AG technical/product team to:

✅ 1. Perform internal validation/testing

• Test Azure AD authentication with:
  • Azure SQL Managed Instance
  • Azure Linux VM
  • webMethods 10.15 (or latest available version)

✅ 2. Confirm a workable approach

• Verify whether Azure AD authentication can be used instead of SQL Authentication during installation

✅ 3. Provide a feasible solution and steps

If feasible, please provide:

• Confirmed working authentication approach
• Required JDBC driver (type and version)
• Detailed configuration steps (Installer / DCC and runtime if applicable)
• Any required prerequisites or environment setup
• Known limitations or considerations

Expectation

We are not looking for general documentation references or unsupported workarounds.

We expect a validated and feasible solution that:

• Aligns with Azure AD authentication requirements
• Can be implemented in our environment
• Is based on Software AG internal testing

Goal

To complete a secure and compliant installation of webMethods on Azure using Azure AD authentication, without relying on SQL Server Authentication.
