Static analysis tool for ESQL

Static code analysis is a popular way to verify the trustworthiness of application software as well as to uncover any potential bugs or security vulnerabilities for remediation. Many tools are available which can scan source languages such as Java, C/C++, .NET, SQL and many others, e.g., HP Fortify, CAST, and others; however, nothing is currently available which can scan and provide static analysis of ESQL code in Message Broker. Having this capability would enable wider adoption of using ESQL as the analysis would enable more transparency into the message flow code base and help more readily identify any potential security vulnerabilities which need to be addressed by the message flow developers.

RFE Review. Apologies for the length of time this RFE has been in the status of Under Consideration. Static code analysis can serve several different purposes and the one presented in the RFE is in the area of assessing security vulnerabilities. Other reasons to scan code statically might be in order to check it for conformance to good coding standards, or to identify how it may have changed since a prior version in order to work out how this might impact other applications which interact with the code. Generally speaking we see this kind of analysis best done by specific tools outside of the IIB / ACE product. We are aware of one such tool which includes an open source plugin for the ESQL language. For the benefit of other readers stumbling over this RFE, this link may be helpful: https://github.com/EXXETA/sonar-esql-plugin
Whilst we have no immediate product plans for this area, we note that this suggestion has received some recent votes so on this occasion we will leave the RFE open for now and continue to monitor for signs of popularity. Status of the RFE is updated to Uncommitted Candidate.
