Support an ESQL function to return the type of a tree elements Value

FIELDTYPE() - returns stuff like XMLNSC.Attribute (INTEGER)

FIELDVALUE() - returns the value

What is lacking is a function to tell you the primitive type of the VALUE
(CHAR, INTEGER, DECIMAL, TIMESTAMP etc)

I know there is a way to check that a reference points to the right TYPE of data

Type constraints
A type constraint checks the data type returned by a field reference.

But this basically just allows you to exception if it is not the right type.

    Idea / RFE Review. Apologies for the length of time this idea has been in the status of Uncommitted Candidate / Future Consideration. Providing more hooks to enable closer developer interaction with the logical message tree would bring future value to the product. Incidental to the actual request but we also note the need here to take care of how to better explain to the user the role of ESQL data types and what happens at the point of serialisation to the wire where other type systems exist (such as XML schema data types for example). Status of the suggestion is maintained as Future Consideration.

    Due to processing by IBM, this request was reassigned to have the following updated attributes:
    Brand - WebSphere
    Product family - Integration
    Product - IBM Integration Bus (WebSphere Message Broker) - IIB

    For recording keeping, the previous attributes were:
    Brand - WebSphere
    Product family - Connectivity and Integration
    Product - IBM Integration Bus (WebSphere Message Broker) - IIB

    Thanks for raising this requirement. We'll look at this at our next opportunity for ESQL enhancements.
