Application Source Code is Not Obfuscated

Vulnerability description:
The IBM integration Toolkit thick application binaries were not compiled with the application source code pre-obfuscated.
It was possible to retrieve the application's source code by using a decompiling utility on the application's executable file
The IBM integration Toolkit thick application was developed using Java

Classification:
Category - NA
Affected Security Control - Configuration Management

Additional Comments (Recommendations):
Implement obfuscation or protection mechanisms to increase the difficulty of performing reverse engineering activities on the client application and server code. Whilst the act of decompiling or attempting to access IBM integration Toolkit code cannot be prevented, it is possible to make code difficult to decipher and obscure the logic of code to deter an attacker. Many options exist to perform obfuscation of code, from enterprise level automated and customizable solutions to open source tools or even the creation of a bespoke implementation. Review the advantages and disadvantages of the various options to determine the best solution for the system.

Idea / RFE Review. Unfortunately with only a single vote since creation in 2016, there has not been sufficient demand to justify the prioritization of this suggestion. In the future we might return to this topic if it becomes the industry norm for development toolkit situations. Meanwhile, IBM retains an interest in making it harder to reverse compile our technology, and we have been using some obfuscation and minification technology to assist with this in the JavaScript area of our codebases, but we have not yet progressed this to cover java toolkit plugins.

RFE Review. Thank you for taking the time to raise this request for enhancement and apologies it has been in Submitted status for so long. Whilst this is not something receiving attention right now, we will continue to monitor this RFE for popularity. Status of the RFE is updated to Uncommitted Candidate.
