This is an IBM Automation portal for Integration products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:
Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,
Post an idea.
Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.
Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

There are various methods / points at which a message is parsed / can be converted to a different Code Page e.g. MQ Get-with convert, whilst reading in data from an Adapter e.g. SAP, ESQL conversions e.g. CAST etc.
Generally if the Message Broker fails to find a match for a character within the target Code Page, this results in out-right failure.
There are exceptions to this (e.g. hex 1a character substitution within the MRM domain which is not very desirable, '?' default character substitution when using the SAP Adapter / nodes).
It would be useful to have a configurable option to allow (either on a message-by-message circumstance or a global configuration parameter):
- Character substitution to occur e.g. convert each unconvertible character to a default fallback character e.g. '?' or '#' etc (something of the Customer's choosing)
- An option to log (e.g. a warning in the event log) to signal the fact that a substitution has occurred

RFE Review. Apologies for the length of time this RFE has been in the status of Under Consideration. The suggested concept remains a good idea. Whilst difficult to achieve from an internal coding perspective, this would yield value for the product. Status is updated to Uncommitted Candidate.
