SonarQube plugin for ESQL language for code quality checks and SAST testing within App Connect Enterprise

  1. ESQL is IBM proprietary, so a vendor supplied plugin will be most suitable
  2. Support for ESQL in the ACE product is continuing, and is very powerful for any-to-any transformations written as code instead of Mapping Nodes
  3. Automation is now the de facto standard, and Code Quality assessed via a set of well-defined rules in a DevSecOps pipeline is recommended
  4. SonarQube is a well-known product in the industry, and assessment reports being seen as acceptable as SAST testing, delivering value in the Security scanning function
  5. No immediate alternatives given the ESQL language is IBM proprietary and assessing for code bugs in ESQL is not an easy job that can be taken up in-house by ACE users
  6. Community supported plugin was previously available for IIB, but no longer found to be suitable / compliant any more for our centralised SonarQube scanning, that requires fully supported plugins from reliable providers

    I wish IBM products (ACE tool kit) to have plugins available for ESQL (or any IBM proprietary) which would work with widely used enterprise level static code analysis tools like Sonar Qube, so that we could identify the security and vulnerable issues as part of static code analysis and fix them and deliver the cleaner code. Support for ESQL in the ACE product is continuing, and is very powerful for any-to-any transformations written as code instead of Mapping Nodes

    As more and more , compliance requirements are in place for most of the enterprises, it is important for IBM products to have plugins available for example to do checks on ESQL (or any IBM proprietary ) which would work with enterprise level tools like sonar qube etc. so that we could meet the security requirements of the enterprise.
