Adding a Password Change Feature for aspshell Users

We would like to request a review for implementing a password management and change feature for aspshell users to enhance our overall security posture.

To ensure proper security compliance, administrators need to be able to configure password policies, including password expiration periods and complexity requirements.

Additionally, any password reset by an administrator must be safely and independently changeable by the user.

Since HSTS users utilize 'aspshell', they cannot directly log into the server to change their passwords.

Therefore, it is necessary to provide a mechanism that allows users to change their passwords either through a Desktop Client GUI (similar to Shares) or via the CLI.

Please review whether HSTS can add the following capabilities:

  1. Server administrators will set policies such as password expiration, and users can update their passwords to meet these requirements once they expire.
  2. If an administrator resets a password, the user is forced to change it immediately upon logging into HSTS via the Desktop Client or when attempting a data transfer using the ascp command.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

We look forward to your feedback on the feasibility of this implementation.

Best regards,

Leehoon Kil
