Enable OpenTelemetry trace support for IBM App Connect Compute Nodes with configured data sources.

Currently, IBM App Connect supports OpenTelemetry tracing only for transport nodes such as MQ, HTTP, SOAP, Kafka, and REST. However, many enterprise customers rely heavily on Compute Nodes with configured data sources to interact with databases and perform critical business logic. The lack of OpenTelemetry support for these nodes limits visibility into performance bottlenecks and transaction tracing, especially in complex integration flows.

By extending OpenTelemetry trace capabilities to Compute Nodes with data source configurations, customers would gain end-to-end observability across their entire integration landscape. This enhancement would allow for better monitoring, faster troubleshooting, and improved performance optimization using tools like IBM Instana.

The implementation could involve enabling trace span generation within the Compute Node when executing database operations, similar to how transport nodes currently emit telemetry data.
