Enable Opentelemetry for SAP and SOAP Nodes

This feature allows the collection of OpenTelemetry-compatible tracing data for SOAP and SAP nodes within IBM App Connect Enterprise (ACE). By enabling OpenTelemetry, developers and operations teams can gain deep observability into message flows involving SOAP and SAP interactions.

When enabled, the SOAP and SAP nodes automatically emit trace data that includes key metadata such as operation names, endpoints, processing times, and error states. This trace data integrates with OpenTelemetry-compatible backends (e.g., Jaeger, Prometheus, Grafana, or Azure Monitor) to visualize end-to-end flow execution and diagnose performance bottlenecks or integration issues more efficiently.

Better visibility into distributed transactions across microservices and legacy systems

Configuration typically involves:

Setting OpenTelemetry exporter properties in the integration server configuration

    Thank you for taking the time to raise this request to IBM. We recognize the value this feature brings in improving observability for SOAP and SAP-based integrations.

    This RFE is being rejected. OpenTelemetry tracing is already supported for SOAP nodes, and for SAP Ariba Request and SuccessFactors Request nodes (from ACE v13.0.4.0). For the classic SAP Request node (RFC/SNC via SAP JCo), enabling OpenTelemetry would require changes and alignment with SAP’s proprietary transport and libraries, which is non-trivial and outside our current scope.
