IIB Automapping

It is better to have a capability to automap between cobol copybook and its correspondent xsd file without human intervention. This can reduce our development time drastically. It would be great if it is possible as API to use programmatically.

Idea / RFE Review. Apologies for the length of time this idea has been in the status of Uncommitted Candidate / Future Consideration. Unfortunately, with only a single vote in the 6 years since this request was opened, we are not in a position to prioritise this feature right now so we will not be moving forward with this idea. Whilst the automap capability in the Toolkit remains popular (and we have also recently added a new tutorial as part of v12), there has not been strong demand for the automation of this buildtime task via a programmable API. We have also found that typically the feature is a great starting point for a mapping task but still requires a small amount of human intervention to decide on the accuracy of the generated automappings ... this is very similar to the AI mapping assist feature which has been added to our Designer authoring tool ... where confidence ratings help a user decide the value of the AI-suggested map.

Thanks for raising this RFE and for the attached email correspondence. To confirm, the requirement being raised here is to expose the automapping capability via a Java API, which is available in the GDM map node. This feature compares source and target fields and maps together elements which have similar names. For reference, note that if the XML schema and COBOL copybook use field names which are *exactly* the same then it may be possible to simply copy the IIB logical tree structure from under the DFDL domain under the XMLNSC domain. Of course this won't work if the source and target are just *similarly* named. The RFE would make a great enhancement to the product and its status is updated to Uncommitted Candidate.
