Support of 3rd party SFP's

Support and certify a wider range of SFP's that are commercially available to clients. The IBM specification in this case, results in Nedbank having to change their network cabling configuration in their Data center.

There is a reality that network throughput specifications will increase and IBM needs to cater for and support changes in SFP's.

    From Development:

We certify the SFPs that we ship with the appliance. If customers want, or need, to use a different SFP then they can do so, but they need to test it themselves. Our documented guidance is available at https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/mq-appliance/9.4?topic=iair-considerations-when-connecting-appliance-your-network, which states: "You might choose to replace the supplied transceivers with alternative parts, for example, to replace a short range optical transceiver with a long range optical transceiver. Any SFP+ and QSFP+ transceiver (or DAC/AOC) following industry standards is compatible with the IBM® MQ Appliance network modules. If a support problem is identified with an SFP+ or QSFP+ transceiver not supplied by IBM, you might be asked to reproduce the problem on a component supplied by IBM. The 'link' and/or 'activity' LEDs can be used to confirm that the transceiver is operational." We have no plans to change our support position and test additional SFPs.

The customer wants to use the Cisco QSFP-40G-SR-BD SFP against their Cisco routers, and they can’t make use of MPO due to a limitation in their data centres at the moment.

We would need a list of the desired SFP/cable types as there are many possible combinations
