Use XPath iib:getUserDefinedProperty('propertyName') in node properties

Currently in ACE within the custom XPath mapper there is function available, iib:getUserDefinedProperty(), which will allow you to retrieve the value of a user defined property. However, when using Xpath expressions in the properties of a node the function is not available and you can only map values from the message tree. This can result in having to use an extra transformation node to map user defined properties into the message tree so that it will be available later for a node to pick it up. We have two recent examples of this. 1. We were trying to have a user defined property which needed to be mapped into a query string parameter of a REST call on the REST Request Code. Rather than being able to directly map this in the Parameters table in the Request tab of the node we had to map that value into the LocalEnvironment in an earlier step. 2. We were trying to have a message flow route differently based on the value in a user defined property. Ideally, we could have directly referenced the user defined property in the XPath in the Filter table used the Route Node. In this case our options were to add an extra step to map the user defined property to the message tree or do the routing through an ESQL Node. We would like to see the iib:functions, which are available in the XPath expressions within a Mapping Node, also be made available in the XPath expressions which are in the properties of other nodes. This will facilitate the simplification of message flows with fewer steps needed in some cases.

Idea / RFE Review. Thank you for taking the time to raise this enhancement request which we agree would improve the product's usability. As noted, we have support for accessing UDPs from a graphical map, but this is not currently reflected in the standardised Xpath that appears on other graphical nodes. The notes workaround of placing values in to the logical tree prior to accessing them in a downstream node gives short term relief for how to achieve the usecase, but we acknowledge that flow development would become simpler if we were to implement this request. Status of the suggestion is updated to Future Consideration.
