I would like to request the IIB V10 software that runs on the z/OS operating system be enhanced to use the z/OS hardware cryptography leveraging ICSF and RACF keystores. Currently IIB only supports the JCERACFKS keystore for certificates and keys that are managed and stored by RACF. RACF has a key size limit of 2K. Stronger encryption can be realized by enabling IIB to exploit the Integrated Cryptographic Service Facility.
Integrated Cryptographic Service Facility (ICSF) is the software on a z/OS system that serves as an interface with the hardware where keys can be stored. The JCECCARACFKS keystores handle certificates and keys managed in Resource Access Control Facility (RACF). The certificates are stored in RACF, but you can store keys in ICSF or RACF. The ICSF facility supports key sizes up to 4K.
The JCECCARACFKS keystore is used for certificates and keys that you manage in RACF. You store the certificates in RACF, and you can store the keys in either RACF or ICSF. Using the JCECCARACFKS keystore type requires that you include the IBMJCECCA provider in the provider list specified in the java.security file.

Idea Review. As part of our policy for regularly reassessing aged ideas we have recently discussed this enhancement request again. With just a single vote since its creation in 2019, the chance of implementation of this feature remains a very low business priority, but in theory would be possible (https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/was-nd/9.0.5?topic=cwspis-using-zos-hardware-cryptography-leveraging-icsf-racf-keystores). We will keep the idea open for now, but without further displays of support from the community, the chance of this implementation making the product currently remain slim.
RFE Review. Thank you for raising this RFE and apologies it has been in Submitted Status for a while. We agree this enhancement suggestion would be appreciated by some users, and whilst we note that delivery prioritization is unlikely soon, we will continue to monitor the RFE's popularity. Status of the RFE is updated to Uncommitted Candidate.
